Member: Karla Carpenter, Davenport, IA
Project Title: OC3 Goals for Giving

Karla’s Crossfit group created weekly goals such as working out five days a week. When a group member hit her goal, she put $10 - $20 into a collection for the Scott County Humane Society. At the end of the eight-week challenge, the group raised $955! They used the Difference Maker Fund to supplement their monetary donation by purchasing items from the shelter’s wish list.

Project Title: Courts for Cancer

Kristi and her husband are tennis coaches at their local high school. In 2018, their son was diagnosed with cancer, and they received an outpouring of community support. For the past six years, they have hosted a tennis tournament to raise funds to support community members battling cancer. Kristi used the Difference Maker Funds to purchase tennis tournament supplies like medals for the kids and t-shirts for participants.

Member: Henry Daniels, Otisville, MI
Project Title: Strength in Numbers Euchre Tournament

Henry is the sponsor of his high school’s NHS chapter. With the help of his students, he organized a euchre tournament to raise funds for Strength in Numbers, an organization that assists veterans in need. Henry used the Difference Maker Funds to purchase euchre cards and refreshments for participants. During the tournament, they honored the memory of a World War II veteran who passed away in 2023.

Project Title: Holiday Fundraiser

Joanie used the Difference Maker Funds to purchase popcorn and hot cider to sell during a holiday fundraiser to support their local American Legion.

Member: Nancy Stevens, Eldora, IA
Project Title: Memorial Day Omelet Breakfast

Nancy supported an omelet breakfast fundraiser by using her Difference Maker Funds to purchase 70 dozen eggs. They raised almost $2,500 for the maintenance of a 90-year-old building call the Round House that serves as an event venue for their community.
