Royal Neighbors of America empowers women and improves communities through philanthropy programs, such as Nation of Neighbors℠. Nation of Neighbors awards grants to support initiatives that advance the interests of women or girls.

Royal Neighbors member and Stitching a Legacy founder, McKara Caldwell shares our values. At a young age, McKara, of Viola, Illinois, was inspired to make a difference. She organized a sew-a-thon to create hand-made dresses for girls in need who may not have the opportunity to wear fashionable clothing otherwise. McKara, now a freshman at Indiana Wesleyan University, grew the sew-a-thon into a nonprofit organization, Stitching a Legacy. McKara and her committed team of volunteers have made and gifted nearly 1,000 dresses to girls in group homes, domestic violence shelters, refugee safe places and hospitals.

Royal Neighbors awarded a $5,000 Nation of Neighbors grant to McKara to help her grow Stitching a Legacy and uplift more girls in more communities. McKara plans to use her grant funds to create a web site and broaden her advertising reach.

Royal Neighbors of America is honored to help McKara leave a legacy of improving young girls’ lives, one dress at a time.
